This site-specific installation was commissioned for the fiftieth anniversary of the performing arts complex Centro Cultural del Bosque. This complex houses seven theaters and is located next to one of Mexico City's main military bases: Campo Marte. The installation was projected for the entrance of one of the theaters, set amidst pillars, in a state of suspended tension: the drumsticks about to strike the surface of each drum, but never completing the action, alluding to the notion of 'strike force.' The work faced the military base, using standard issue military drums to make a comment about the current drug war in Mexico and the perpetual state of tension in the country. This is Rocha's first silent installation.
Manuel Rocha is a Mexico City-based composer, sound artist, curator and researcher.
